Sneek Peek Inside Audi R8 e-tron Production Process

Audi is currently preparing for the production of the R8 e-tron sports car, be launched in late 2012. The company’s quattro GmbH division is currently creating the first technology platform for the vehicle at the Neckarsulm plant satellite site in Heilbronn-Biberach.

The company has recently held its 122nd Annual General Meeting in Neckarsulm, offering the media a look inside the development workshop for the R8 e-tron. The production of the R8 e-tron is close to that of the ICE versions of the car.

“Specific assemblies for the electric model, such as the center tunnel, are being produced by the Pre-Production Center in Neckarsulm. The R8 e-tron also goes through the coating process with the volume model. The technology platform is then sent to the satellite site in Heilbronn-Biberach for final assembly,” explains the press release.

R8 e-tron allows its driver to play with 313 hp, accelerating from 0 to 62 mph in 4.8 seconds. The preparation for the R8 e-tron’s production is part of a development plan that will see Audi invest EUR5 billion in its sites at Ingolstadt and Neckarsulm between the current year and 2015.
